Before you start

Prepare for a clean installation.

  • Check the base and layout

Confirm the stone, tile or paver is 14–20 mm thick and the planned grout joint is 3 mm. Prepare a clean, flat, level base for the chosen installation.

  • Use the right adhesive

Choose adhesive or bedding material suited to the installation. Apply it with the appropriate trowel, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Have compatible wedges ready

Use compatible CLIP-IT® Wedges or Mini Wedges and check their fit with the clip before laying.

Using the product

Place. Tighten. Remove.

Follow the three stages for your clip and compatible wedge.

  1. Place the clips and adjoining pieces — 3 mm stone clips · 14–20 mm

Place the clips and adjoining pieces

Set the first piece firmly, then slide the clip base under its exposed edge. Keep the upright part of the clip at the joint.

Position the adjoining piece against the clip so the base sits beneath both edges. Check joint spacing as you continue.

  2. Insert and tighten the wedges — 3 mm stone clips · 14–20 mm

    Insert and tighten the wedges

Push a compatible CLIP-IT® wedge through the clip opening to hold adjoining edges in alignment.

Use compatible CLIP-IT® Wedges or Mini Wedges and check their fit with the clip before laying. Check adjoining surfaces as you tighten the compatible wedge.
Example shown: 15 mm material with a Regular Wedge.

  3. Let the installation cure, then remove — 3 mm stone clips · 14–20 mm

Let the installation cure, then remove

Wait until the adhesive or bedding material has cured, following the manufacturer’s curing instructions.

Remove clips along the grout line, by kicking in the direction of the joint or using the DE-CLIP-IT Hammer. Recover the wedges for reuse.

A few useful answers

Get the details right.

Material thickness, wedge fit and clip removal.

What do 3 mm and 14–20 mm mean?

3 mm is the grout joint spacing. 14–20 mm is the thickness of the stone, tile or paver the clip is designed to suit.

Which wedge should I choose?

Use compatible CLIP-IT® Wedges or Mini Wedges and check their fit with the clip before laying.

When can I remove the clips?

After the adhesive or bedding material has cured. Follow its manufacturer’s curing instructions; there is no single curing time for every product and job.

Why is a clip not breaking cleanly?

Excess adhesive around the clip legs can interfere with removal. Keep that area clear during laying, allow curing, and remove along the grout line. Contact CLIP-IT® if a clip remains stuck.

Can the wedges be reused?

Yes. Recover the compatible wedges after clip removal and keep them for the next installation. The clips are designed to break at the base during removal.
