Before you start

Prepare for a clean installation.

  • Prepare the surface

Make sure the tiling base is clean, flat and level before you begin.

  • Apply tile adhesive

Use adhesive suited to your tiles and spread it with the appropriate trowel. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s application and curing instructions.

  • Have your equipment ready

Use white 1.5 mm clips with compatible CLIP-IT® Wedges or Mini Wedges. Tile Pliers and the DE-CLIP-IT Hammer are optional.

From the first tile to removal

Place. Tighten. Remove.

Follow these three stages, then watch the demonstration to see the handling technique.

  1. White CLIP-IT® clip with its base under the exposed edge of the first tile

Place the clips and adjoining tiles

Set the first tile firmly, then slide the clip base under its exposed edge. Keep the upright part of the clip at the tile edge.

Lay the next tile against the clip so the base sits beneath both tile edges. Keep the joints consistent as you continue laying.

  2. Compatible black wedge passing through the white CLIP-IT® clip between adjoining tiles

    Insert and tighten the wedges

Push a compatible CLIP-IT® wedge through the clip opening to hold the adjoining tile edges in alignment.

Tighten by hand or with CLIP-IT® Tile Pliers. The wedge rests across both tile surfaces while the adhesive cures.

  3. CLIP-IT® clip between cured tiles, showing removal along the grout line

Let the adhesive cure, then remove

Wait until the adhesive has cured, following the adhesive manufacturer’s curing instructions.

Kick along the grout line, or use the DE-CLIP-IT Hammer in the same direction. Recover the wedges and keep them for reuse.

A few useful answers

Get the details right.

Quick checks for joint spacing, curing and clip removal.

Does 1.5 mm mean the tile thickness?

No. It is the grout joint spacing created by the clip. The white 1.5 mm tile clip is for tiles 6–12 mm thick.

When can I remove the clips?

After the adhesive has cured. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s curing instructions; there is no single curing time for every adhesive and job. Remove the clips along the grout line.

Why is a clip not breaking cleanly?

Check whether excess adhesive has built up around the clip leg. Clear glue along the tile edge during laying so it does not run up the leg. Let the adhesive cure, then remove along the grout line. If a clip remains stuck, contact CLIP-IT® for help.

Can I reuse the wedges?

Yes. Recover the compatible wedges after clip removal and keep them for the next installation. The clips are designed to break at the base during removal.

How many clips will I need?

Use the CLIP-IT® tile clip calculator to estimate quantities from your tile dimensions and project area. Allow for cuts and your chosen layout, and check pack availability with a stockist.
